Uzhgorod: Welcome to Old Ungvar, Hungarian Fort and Subterranean Dungeon

Uzhgorod, which is now part of Ukraine, used to be known as Ungvar and was a Hungarian settlement.

Hokey models from the original Hungarian settlement of Uzhgorod.

Underneath the museum, visitors may visit a subterranean dungeon which once formed part of the city’s fortifications.

An old medallion honoring Franz Joseph and the old Austro-Hungarian Empire.

To this day, Uzhgorod celebrates its Hungarian heritage.  For example, I came upon this multi-cultural fair in the city center, where young Hungarians had a stall and were plying local goods.
